The Tail Feather 10.0 Camper is modular, lightweight, and can be towed by most four cylinder cars. It is available as a DIY Kit that can be assembled on your own 10’ x 5’ trailer, or you can purchase a ‘Drive Away’ Camper from us. Our ‘Drive Away’ Campers are available assembled on either an aluminium or steel trailer.
The DIY Camper Kit weighs only 240 kg, and contains all the necessary components to build a hard shell that when assembled on a trailer becomes a ‘caravan like’ camper trailer. Combined with a typical 10’ x 5’ trailer, the tare weight of the camper is approximately 530 kg, making it easily towed by most four cylinder cars.
The outer shell of the Tail Feather 10.0 Camper is made up of twelve side panels, two corner panels, three roof sections, and a door assembly that contains two rear doors. The side and corner panels are made from tough UV stable polyethylene and are injected with foam to provide excellent insulation properties. The roof sections are insulated with foam and a roof liner. The door assembly is made from a combination of hard plastics and aluminium to save on weight.
Of the twelve side panels, two come with a fixed window, and four with an opening window and insect screen. The windows can be positioned to suit your personal preferences. Each side panel contains an internal and external tie-down ring. The internal tie-down ring can be used to tie-down cargo such as a motorbike or quad bike thus turning your camper into a bike trailer or toy hauler.
The Tail Feather 10.0 Camper Kit also comes standard with:
Dinette and table that converts to a double bed (1880 mm x 1460 mm) with 100 mm foam cushions
Two bench tops with underneath storage (one with a sink and water reservoir)
Two Canvas hanging cabinets (one with 3 shelves, the other a wardrobe)
Marine carpet that is easily removed for cleaning
Curtains (x 4) for each of the opening windows
Reflective sunshields (x 4) for the fixed windows and door windows
LED lights x 2
Roof hatches x 2
Sky lights x 2
3 metre in-line light switch
EASY TO STORE
The Tail Feather 10.0 is also easy to store. It can be left on the trailer permanently, or dismantled and stored away when not in use. Alternatively, the kit can be assembled on the ground or raised platform to create an extra bedroom, backyard shed or emergency shelter.
Another storage option is to invert the two roof sections thus enabling the camper to fit under a standard 2050 mm garage door or carport.
The Tail Feather is manufactured in Colorado, USA, and has been tested in torrential rain, heavy snow and high winds. The American inventor had outgrown drying out wet canvas, but couldn’t find a suitable camper that could be towed by his four cylinder SUV. Thus the Tail Feather Camper was born.
It’s safe and secure from the elements (and the bears in North America), lightweight, easy to tow and manoeuvre, quick to set-up, and is suitable for singles, couples and family’s with children (just attach an Oz Tent to the back for the kids).
